A Splendid Success

The Open house at BendOverBackwards Iyengar Yoga Studio was great fun last Saturday. Many old friends and new came to celebrate and enjoy the festivities.

The yoga demo classes taught by our talented teachers were very popular and well attend by yogis new to the studio and old faithfuls, offering everything from restorative yoga, inversions, kurunta or yoga using the rope wall, to prnanyama (yogic breathing) and yogic philosophy.

Missi’s table of Chai tea and cookies was enjoyed by all. Complimentary homebaked cookies and homemade chai proved irrsistable. A big thanks to all the cookie bakers. There were so many cookies that plates of cookies were happily bought with proceeds going to the Candles.

Music was provided by Dustin and his friends. Many, including the children, were drawn in to play the many lovely instruments. It was a light fanciful addition to the fair.

Kimberley had a table of her signature beautufl jewelry, including the Iyengar yoga bracelets that are becoming well and widely known. The Candles’ table held our signature handmade, hand-knit treasures: Nana’s cotton washcloths and baby afghans , Barbara’s hand-knit sweaters and booties plus Irene’s beautiful socks and hats as well as soy tea-lights in kitenge drawstring bags.
My personal favourites were the little “Candle” dolls knit by Irene. Kathryn’s photo cards were gorgeous as was  the  felted wool door hanging from Nepal Denise donated. It was a colourful and busy table.

Sue had a table of gorgous crafts from the Nana-GO Grannies whose profits go to our beloved Stephen Lewis Foundation.

Kelly’s sister Norma was selling yoga pros and equipment. There were beautifully crafted wooden pranyama benches and an exquisite halasana bench. The crowd pleasers were cotton bloomers worn by yogis in India and apparently here too!

The money earned for the Candles was enough to pay 1 university tuition, 2 high school tuitions and daily needs for the rest of The Candles. It was a happy day here in Nanaimo as well as in Kampala and Kabesheshe in Uganda! We offer an areound theorl hearty thanks to everyone who made this event so memorable.
